Kentucky “BIG DAWG” Dog Collar

Dog Stuff

Back by popular demand! Made right here in our own leather shop, a dog collar for the BIG DAWG in your family.

Your BIG DAWG needs a collar that is both strong and attractive. Up to a full 1 1/4″ wide, these collars are made out of the same heavy weight bridle leathers used in our dress halters and name plate belts or in weather resistant harness leather or dark oiled bridle leather.

  • Buy one of our Kentucky harness belts and get your BIG DAWG to match!
  • Non-rusting solid brass hardware.
  • We now offer these with or without the solid brass nameplate.
  • To keep ordering simple we now offer all neck sizes in all three widths. HOWEVER…We recommend the following guidelines for your highest satisfaction:
3/4 inch width from 13 to 17 inches.
1 inch width from 17 to 25 inches
1-1/4 inch width from 19 to 27 inches.
More Collar For Your Dollar

You get more collar for your dollar and a sizing system that makes sense when you purchase a collar for your pet from us. Unlike many collars, our leather collars allow an extra 2-3 inches of adjustment. What does that mean to you? Well, simply put, it means that the measurement of your dog’s neck is the size of the collar it needs. No guesswork needed to buy a collar that fits your dog correctly and comfortably!

About Adding a Brass Nameplate to your collar.

To order:

  1. Select the single line or two line option with your collar.
  2. Type in your text. If ordering a 2-line plate, designate the second line with a plus (+) sign.
  3. The plate will be riveted to the the collar approximately half way between the buckle and the tightest hole.
  4. NOTICE: When deciding what to engrave on your plate, remember that “less is more”. Crowding in information (your address, extra phone numbers, etc…) makes the print smaller and therefore makes your plate more difficult to read. While we do not enforce a “hard cap” on engraving, it is best to not go over 20-25 letters and spaces per line. We will not be held responsible for any perceived lack of quality when a plate exceeds these guidelines. We do NOT recommend 2-line plates for the 5/8 inch wide collars.
  5. On that note: Two line plates will be engraved as “best fit”. We do our best to assure quality and “readability”, but we cannot guarantee either.

Note that we do not have a “hard cap” on the how many letters you can have per line. HOWEVER LESS IS MORE. No one needs to know your dog’s life history or your full address. Keep it simple. Twenty characters and spaces is about the most that looks good.

For single line plates most people just put their name or their dog’s name.

For two line plates, below are some common layouts.

The top one is our personal favorite and what we do for our own pets. The dog’s name plus the owner’s last name for the top line with the phone number below.

We suggest for only one phone number to be engraved. Foremost, two phone numbers requires up to 24 characters and spaces. This makes the print so small that most people would rather call the pound instead of getting that close to your dog. Secondly, even if they can read it, most people are not going to play phone tag trying to run you down. They will call one number and leave you a message.
